The Premiere
HACKERS ARE PEOPLE TOO officially premiered at DEFCON 16 in Las Vegas to a crowd of approximately 3000 (Acccording to Bob Cat, it might have been more, but it was a scary/awesome number)! So far, the response from the community to the film has been overwhelmingly positive with comments ranging from "good film" to "one of the best documentaries I've ever seen". Thank you to all the awesome people who came to the premiere and even more thanks to all of you who bought a copy (or 10). We sold over 600 copies of the DVD at DefCon so thank you for helping us nearly break even!
What's Next?
Now we need to get this film seen by people outside the community! We have submitted to 13 festivals so far - and will update as soon as we find out if we've been accepted!
PhreakNic12: We will be screening Hackers Are People Too at this year's PhreakNic con in Nashville, TN on Friday, October 24, at 11 pm! DVDs will be on sale at the con for $10.
UAT's Tech Forum: We will be presenting the film and discussing the making of as well as what we learned from the entire process. November 5 - 7.

Inspiration
The inspiration for this film came from a brief discussion I had with one my professors in March of 2007:
"I'll be missing class on Friday since I'm going to a conference."
"Oh, that's fine. What kind of conference?"
"A hacker conference." I was going to Shmoocon.
"HACKERS?! Like....*whispers dramatically* computer hackers? They have CONFERENCES?!"
"Um...yes."
"What do they do there? Do they try to hack into banks and take over networks and steal credit cards?"
*blank stare* ".............yes."
After that enlightening conversation, I decided that maybe hackers had been getting a bad rap for too long. How could people really still believe that all hackers were computer criminals? So after feeling out the idea at Shmoocon, I decided it would be a great idea to do a real documentary. I wrangled my friend Amanda into being my sound girl and come with me to DefCon where we recieved many strange stares as we tried to convince people that they wanted to talk to us on camera :)
Thank you for your continuing support and patience!
